These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

I had a bit of extra time on my hands this past week and decided to do a Google search of my photography images. It was interesting to see which images of mine Google chose to display. Some of them were pulled from way back when! It was also fun to look through the images and play the game of “mine”… “not mine”…. “not mine, but oooh I like that one.” In the end I decided to say, “Thanks Google, but let ME show YOU the images you should be putting on there”. So here ya go. These are a few of my favorite things…

Downtown Dancers

I simply love photographing dancers!  They are so graceful and the camera loves them!  This fall I have been working with a few dancers in creating portraits that celebrate their senior company years with their local dance studio.  For our sessions we traveled to downtown Greensboro and found some really great locations!  #dancer #danceportrait #dancecompany #downtownportrait #creativedanceportrait #outdoordance

It’s always a lovely time of year when spring arrives. ¬†The days get longer, the weather gets warmer and we get to venture outdoors. ¬†I love hanging out with these two as they explore all that nature has to offer.

My Grandmother on my Mom’s side was a beautiful woman with a gentle spirit. ¬†She passed away when I was in high school. ¬†Some of the memories I have of her are random, like the way she would rest her hand on the driver’s headrest while we rode in the car. ¬†Oddly enough I don’t remember her ever wearing a hat, but one of the things I inherited from her were a collection of hats. ¬†She kept the hats in a spare room and when we visited my grandparents home I would make my way to the hat collection to play dress-up. ¬†Inspired by those memories and my Grandmother I decided to create a series of images centered around hats. ¬†The hats from this series are reminiscent of the styles my Grandmother would have worn. ¬†I would like to share with you the first images from my Hat Series. ¬†Model: ¬†Riley Cox

Downtown Dance

This past spring I photographed a few dancers from Nan’s School of Dance. ¬†Each year we photograph them for their recital portraits. ¬†However, this year I wanted to offer something a little extra. ¬†We decided to move outdoors and photograph the dancers in a city landscape. ¬†I loved the combination of the elegant dancers and unique settings. ¬†The dancers were able to play off of their surroundings and create images that were visually intriguing. ¬†I’m so happy with the final results! ¬†The sessions were such a hit with the dancers that we are scheduled to take more photographs this fall! ¬†I can hardly wait!

In The Backyard

Yes it’s still winter but the weather outside has been fantastic.¬† Yesterday afternoon the kids were told to go spend some time in the backyard.¬† I don’t take nearly enough photos of them as they seem to be getting bigger every day.¬† So I decided to join them for awhile as they ran around outside and played.

Creative Portrait Session

A rainy day is the perfect day for a photo session, right!?¬† …as a matter of fact, the answer is yes!¬† To be honest I was a little concerned as we headed to the designated location and the rain drops were steadily pounding on the windshield.¬† But I kept my fingers crossed the NC would stay true to form and the little shower would soon pass.¬† Thankfully that is exactly what happened!

So before meeting this beautiful young girl for her Creative Portrait Session, she had told me that she wanted to include her bow and arrow in the photos and that she wanted to be a super hero… but like a cool one.¬† I loved the idea and we talked about our mutual interest in t.v. shows like The Flash and The Arrow.¬† For her portraits we explored the idea of strength both as a kick butt individual and then¬†with a quieter, feminine strength.

I loved her excitement for her photos and her willingness to explore, design and create!  Such a beauty!
