Creative Portrait Workshop

It’s no surprise that I love portrait photography.  I see the beauty in each and every person that stands in front of my camera and I love how that beauty comes through in their photographs.  However, I have always felt that there is more that I wanted to express through my portrait photography.  After a couple of years of exploring what that “more” was, I stumbled upon the idea of hosting creative portrait workshops.  I love the idea of taking the average person and working with them to create this elaborate vision of a portrait with them in the starring role.  Many of us feel the urge to create, the urge to express ourselves, or simply the urge to play and become something more than who we are in our everyday lives.  My Creative Portrait Workshops provides you with the opportunity to do just that.

We started our workshop day with a short presentation on what exactly a creative portrait is.  We looked at example photos from amazing photographers and talked about what it is that makes their photos so special.

In the next phase of our day we turned on our creative brains as we began to think about and plan for our own portraits.  Some participants searched through the ample supply of props and knick knacks I had brought with me, while others set to work it creating their costumes from scratch.  Everyone was sharing ideas and we all helped each other along the way.

Finally the time had come to snap a few photos.  Each participant received 30 mins of time in front of the camera to make their vision come alive.  It was a thrilling experience and one that I am excited to continue to share with others in future workshops.

Little Beauty

This little beauty keeps getting bigger and bigger!  Her smart Mommy signed up for the Grow With Me Package.  So we get to meet up every 3 months for a special portrait session.  It’s so neat to see how much she has grown and changed at each session.  Take a look at her progress so far:

For her 6 Month Session we decided to meet at a local park.  I loved the little outfits Baby H wore and the pearls were an adorable touch!

Vintage Diner

This past weekend I had an awesome styled photo session!  I had a few lovely models from the Piedmont Swing Dance Society join me at a local diner for a 1930’s/40’s/50’s vintage styled photo session.  (Thank you to them all!)  It was wonderful to see them dressed up and to have such a neat location to photograph at!  This was a fun and creative way to celebrate a pastime that they truly enjoy.  Some are recently familiar with the swing dance scene and some had been dancing for years!  Either way this styled session was a great success and I can’t wait until the next one… maybe it will be with you!!?  What would be your idea for an amazing styled session?

Stomach Bug Ain’t Got Nuttin’ On Us

So my family and I have been down and out with the stomach bug this past week.  I think we are on the mend but the munchkin and I stayed home today to get in a little more recovery time.  Towards the end of the day I was talking with her about how she was feeling and noticed how beautiful the light was around her.  I asked if she would mind if I took a couple of pictures of her.  She looked at me kinda funny but said ok.  She was a trooper and I love these images from her little indoor portrait session.  I would love to photograph you in your own indoor portrait session!  Just let me know when you would like to set it up!  🙂

Birthday Girl

So after photographing big sister for her birthday, this little one certainly didn’t want to be left out.  So a few weeks ago I met her and her family at a park in Raleigh to photograph this big three year old for her birthday.  We had so much fun walking (or twirling) around the lake and stopping here or there to take a photo or two.
